Helping low income family in Thissa with bathroom
- Project Start Date
11-Nov-2021
Several months back we had the opportunity to help few very poor pregnant moms in Thissamaharama. This month we paid a visit to Thissa and was presented with many other families who needed help. Out of which, 5 families were handpicked to help with our monthly member donations to help build their small homes to livable conditions.
We have heard many stories of elephant attacks and other snake bites and hazards from wildlife. But we were only able to witness this time when we visited these places and saw the risk they need to put their small babies and children at. And to make things worse, the houses are easily accessible and an easy target for animals to break in.
So we wanted to help. Looking at the poverty levels of these people, the asks were manageable. As a first step, some of the basic requirements for the households including children's school needs, a few furniture, nets, and ration packs were arranged. We will share more details of them soon.
Then as the next step, we are in the process of helping 5 families with home finishes including cement floors and walls, building toilets, new kitchen, providing waterline, cleaning up a well for clean water are targeted for next month.
The first home for K.A Pushpa Malkanthi, has 3 children and works building bricks for a living along with his husband who is a laborer. They live in a two-room small home which only half complete. And we are helping them add cement to the floors and have a small open kitchen that will have proper roofing and annexed to their existing construction. Stay with us for more updates.
The second home is a family of two children, a 15 year old girl and her brother. Their father has abandoned them and the mother goes for work out of town. The grandmother who is a diabetes patient is who takes care of the family. They did not have a toilet for all these years and used to go out to the woods or their neighbors. And with your contributions we manage to finally let the family have a safe space.
