HOSPITAL LIST -for pregnant moms

In a women's life, having a baby is one of the happiest and also scariest times. A woman undergoes a tremendous amount of pain physically and mentally to give life. In Sri Lanka, we have free government hospitals and great maternity facilities but each lady is expected to bring a "HOSPITAL LIST" this hospital list roughly costs Rs 10,000/= each or more. Women in poverty really struggle to find money to get this list if you don't bring this list you do get looked down upon by attendants/nurses in the hospital. We have heard so many sad stories like this plus THIS list is really the essentials - If your mom you actually really need them for your baby.
We heard about one lady near the Gramasevakers house that was trying to take a loan of Rs 10,000/= to buy this hospital list. This broke our heart! Imagine a poor lady who is going to give birth having to take a loan. I know non of us can imagine the pain a woman like that would feel. the mental load she will have when she cant pay this back. So we decided to help 10 such women.
We spoke to the midwife in Malabe area and Gramsevaka and chose 10 moms to help. These moms were all struggling from poverty and COVID has made it worse with many being in lockdown and the husbands and family not being able to work. so buying this list is a dream!
These ladies were carefully chosen, some of the houses looked ok but actually, over 4 families live in them. they rent rooms it's that bad. so one house was divided into 4 and 4 families were renting room each. so don't judge by what you see. There was one really heartbreaking case where the house was just paneled only. We are having heavy rains and I can't imagine having a tiny baby inside that home.
We went into detail of even including pads for moms and some maternity where, bottles, brushes, tub, nappies, tops, towels, hospital bag they request and something comfy for babies to sleep on as well. Even the nappy safety pins were included
We can't thank enough every one of our monthly members who donated! (list attached) you just made every single mom cry with happy tears, they were shocked they got all these items. just trembling to hold these bags with a big simile on their face. they will their unborn child is very lucky!
Also, We can never thank enough our volunteer Oshadie Korale for her help in coordinating this effort to go to the extents of finding the gender of each of the baby and personally going to each of the houses to distribute the packs so the pregnant moms would not get exposed to any kind of risk of a gathering. It's really an inspiration to work with people like you. Thank you.
