Sirikanduyaya Primary school which started on 12th May 1987, is located in an extreme rural area in North Central Province, Sri Lanka. It belongs to the Alahara secretariat in Hingurakgoda educational zone in Polonnaruwa district. The student population of the school is 83. There are 6 teachers in the staff including the principal.
Koduruwawa primary school is located in an extremely rural area. The current RO water filter in their school is out of service for a long period of time and they have been trying to get a new one for years.
Hagala Maha vidyalaya is educating 509 students and their water filter is broken and therefore has limited access to clean drinking water.
Majority of the parents and guardians of students from these schools are farmers and temporary workers. Some of them are in the military and garment industries. Due to this issue of access to clean water, most of the family members of students and others in the region suffer from kidney related diseases. The water that they consume from schools is unfiltered which is not optimal for drinking. This puts them at risk of diseases. Taking the above matter into consideration, with the help of OSMO Tech we managed to repair all water filters of these three schools. This will ensure good health and hygiene of our children of the future.
The funding for two of the three schools is through a corporate matching donation from First Tech Federal Credit Union and our monthly members got together for one other school So thank you!
The project was successfully carried out with the help of Harshana Lakmal and Hard Truths. This initiative was closely liaised with the Divisional hospital for recommendations as well as Zonal offices for education in Polonnaruwa to ensure that schools which are in dire need of the repairs were addressed. So we want to thank all of you who did the due diligence to ensure that the most needed schools were served.
If you want to be part of this program sponsoring for a water filter repair which costs around USD 250 or a new water filter which is needed for a set of identified schools and costs around USD 1000 please contact us.
