Abhayapura maha Vidyalaya and Welhena Polpitiya Vidyalaya educate altogether about 400 students within the grades of 1-11. Currently, Abhayapura maha Vidyalaya with 266 students has only two computers that are in really bad shape. Welhena Polpitiya Vidyalaya with 130 students has one computer which is currently under repair.
These two schools are hidden away in rural villages that are poorly maintained and usually get machines that are hand-downs from companies. Due to lack of funding for maintenance, these children had not been able to pursue IT education although have been trying to have the technology subject as part of the curriculum. With the help of our volunteer team @hard truths and Harshana, we have also checked with the ministry regarding the positioning of the teachers who are able to take over these students.
With the donations from our monthly members and a generous contribution from a Sri Lankan donor (see attached list) we have managed to secure two brand new computers with a 3-year warranty. Thank you to all of you who donated for this worthy cause for helping children in the villages have the equal opportunity to learn and face the future.
