Mugunuwala Primary School is situated in the rural village of Walihelathenna in the depths of the Sabaragamuwa Province. The school started back in 1960 with only 15 students in merely what could be called a shed and somehow grew to have 185 students by 1985. As time passed, the attendance declined and over the years this school has seen its fair share of children dropping out owing to many unfortunate reasons.
During the past few years, however, the number of students joining the school has started to gradually increase again and in 2021, the school welcomed 13 new students into grade 1 bringing the total number of students to 36.
Surrounded by low-income families, this school is operating on very minimal facilities to the extent where they lack even the basic equipment such as adequate desks and chairs to accommodate the students. That's when they reached out to generous donors, seeking aid to repair damaged desks and chairs they had received from another school before the new grade 1 students started school.
Lucky for the little buds, with the Birthday Donation from Hasini Kalpage, they did not go to a school where they had no desks and chairs to study on. The innocent smiles on their beautiful little faces are exactly why we do what we do. Seeing your efforts flourish in a way of a smile on a little child’s face is more rewarding and encouraging than words could ever explain.
Our heartiest gratitude to the dearest birthday girl and Hard Truths Society for making us a part of this amazing cause and all the coordination effort for this initiative.
This is our future. Join hands with us to help make it brighter.
