Back to school initiative for 2023 - 2nd round of donations

This year for the North Eastern Province Book distribution campaign was across Pulikandikulama, Galkadawala, and Kandamalawa Vidyalaya. We sponsored 159 children across these 3 schools and the children were delighted to receive the new books for their next school year. There were various dances and singing arranged by the children to liven up the event and you can witness their innocent happiness in the photographs that were captured.

To provide some background, with your generous fundraisers and contributions, we have been supporting these same schools since last August 2022 with breakfast meal programs for the past few months until the government subsidy for the breakfast meal was raised starting in 2023. Attendance in these schools increased by around 25% due to our program which encouraged children to attend school more regularly.

It is a common observation that children lose interest in education each year due to their family's financial situation. At the start of every year, it is even more of a challenge for parents to find the money to send their children to school due to the pressure of family commitments. We make sure with your generous donations to make things easier year after year by providing for the essentials and making sure that the contributions find their way only to the much-deserved.

Thank you to everyone who donated. Multiple sources funded this campaign in 2022 including generic and birthday fundraisers, and direct donations while partnering with our generous monthly member donations. This event is part of the larger efforts we are executing with Hard Truths Children society which focuses on uplifting the standards of forgotten rural children.
